Pinnacle Running Camp 2010

What do you do at a running camp for an entire week?

Of course, our focus is on teaching proper training habits, nutrition, and race strategies.  You’ll learn a little about the history of the sport, the types of workouts you should be performing, and some strength training exercises.  You’ll hear from experts in the sport of running on such topics as plyometrics, choosing the right shoe for you, developing a training program to meet your needs, and avoiding injuries.  You’ll meet people who are just as serious about running as you are and who want to improve.  You may even learn how to be a better leader and teammate.

Do we have any fun?

Yes!  Some activities include paintball, canoe races, rock climbing, ropes courses, the “Goofy Olympics”, water polo, ultimate Frisbee, volleyball, basketball, and of course dodge ball.

We end each night with some form of entertainment such as a bonfire, snack shop, a sports movie, or the talent (or lack of talent) show.

Do I have to prepare for this camp?

Yes!  In order to get the most out of this week, it is important that you run on a regular basis in the weeks leading up to camp.

What if I’m not as fast as some other runners?

We will put you in groups according to your ability and fitness levels.  No one will be asked to train at a pace that is too fast for them.

Will we be racing?

On Friday, we will be having our 8th annual Race of Champions.  The course is approximately 2.5 miles over some challenging terrain.  There are no awards… you’ll compete against yourself or last year’s time.

What should I bring?

You will need to bring a sleeping bag and your own pillow.  You will need your own soap, shampoo, towels, and any other necessities.   There are no laundry facilities so bring ample socks, shorts, t-shirts, etc.  Sports drink and water will always be available, but you may want to bring snacks.  You will definitely need a bathing suit or two (Modesty is a camp requirement.  Girls should bring a one piece suit).  It is advisable to bring two pair of running sneakers, some sandals, and some flip-flops for the shower facilities.

Do I need additional cash?

The camp snack shop is available to us everyday.  Pinnacle milkshakes are something to write home about.  If you want to play paintball or participate in the high ropes adventure, the cost for each of those activities is $30 each.  Each activity lasts about 2 hours.  These activities are completely optional.

When and where is check-in?

Check in will be at “White Birch” at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 1.  White Birch is located across the street from the main camp.  Remember to bring any medical information that Camp Pinnacle has requested.

When should my parents pick me up?

Parent pick up will be between 4:30-5:00 p.m. on Friday, August 6th at White Birch.

Pinnacle is a Christian Camp.  How does this affect running camp?

Though running is a common interest shared by our campers, the camp’s main mission remains to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ.  Throughout the week, guest pastors will relate running to the Bible, counselors and coaches will share stories of how God works in their lives, and campers will be given the opportunity to seek answers to some of life’s most difficult questions.
